Erykah Badu

Biography In 1994, teacher and part-time singer Erica Wright aka Erykah Badu is the support act for D'Angelo. His manager is impressed by her performance and asks Badu to record a duet with D'Angelo. After recording 'Precious Love', a cover by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, he offers Badu a contract with his new record label Kedar Entertainment. Baduizm, her debut album, is released in 1997. All but one of the numbers on Baduizm are from Badu's hand. Massenburg is the producer and bassist Ron Carter and members of The Roots contribute to the album. On & On The first single 'On & On' immediately hit the top of the American R&B list, the album stuck at the second place of the Billboard Album Chart. Two million copies sold within two months of the debut album's release is not a bad performance. At that time it is even a record for a female debutant. Tyrone Badu was discovered during a performance and that is not surprising, because live is very strong. Her voice comes into its own on stage even better and Badu brings her mix of r & b, soul, blues and jazz with confidence and inspiration. Shortly after her debut, she already released a live album. The single 'Tyrone' from this album reaches the top 20 in the Netherlands and becomes a classic. Writers Block For a second studio album, fans have to wait until 2000, when Mama's Gun is released. That album is released by the legendary Motown label. She is gradually gaining iconic status. After the birth of her daughter and the release of her third album 'Worldwide Underground', she gets writer's block that lasts 4 years. In 2008 her fourth album 'New Amerykah part one' will eventually be released, the first part of an announced trilogy of new material. The second volume will be published in 2010.
